Artist Talk:
Helin Alas & Mateo Chacón Pino
Sunday, May 1st, 4pm
BPA// Berlin program for artists presents art historian Mateo Chacón Pino in conversation with Helin Alas. The two will discuss Alas’ work, process, and influences in the framework of Alas’ exhibition Prolog at BPA// Raum.
Helin Alas’ works reflect on subtexts of contemporary artistic practice. Her installation Prolog in the BPA// Raum is thus both stage and protagonist. Alas challenges conventions of class and social norms in (sometimes) humorous ways. Drawing on her own experience as a young female artist, her work is also an analysis of contemporary art making and in this sense a questioning of its working conditions.
Helin Alas (*1987, DE) studied art education at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. Her works have been shown at Friends Objects, Loggia, Munich (2020), The Phantom Moves Through Space and Through Different Bodies, Kevin Space, Vienna (2020), Stadtarchiv (with Alex Wissel), Mauer, Cologne (2021), and dissolving matter & value, Lothringer13 Halle, Munich (2021). In March 2022, Alas will open a solo presentation at Museum Brandhorst, Munich.
Helin Alas was a BPA// participant in 2017. Prolog is her first solo exhibition in Berlin.
Mateo Chacón Pino is a Colombian-Swiss art historian, curator, and writer based in Kassel, Germany.
